Equality in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

The School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is committed to developing and implementing targeted measures to improve the compatibility of science, studies, career and family. If you have any questions or concerns on these topics, our team of local equal opportunities officers will be happy to advise you.

Travel allowances for female Master's students actively participating in conferences

Female Master's students have the opportunity to apply to the local equal opportunities office for a travel allowance to attend meetings and conferences. This support is intended to promote the early establishment of an academic network, which is of great importance for professional and academic development. Such a network not only provides access to career opportunities and knowledge exchange, but also to mentoring and valuable resources. It also helps to increase visibility and recognition within the professional community and promotes both personal and professional support.

A prerequisite for funding is active participation in the conference (through a poster or oral presentation).

Funding of up to EUR 500 can be granted. Two applications per department group will be considered per semester.

The following documents should be sent to the local equal opportunity office equalityfk4(at)uni-wuppertal.de:

- Letter of motivation

- Submitted abstract

- Confirmation of active conference participation from the organiser

- List of travel expenses and, if applicable, receipts for amounts already paid

- References (contact details of persons, such as university lecturers or research assistants, who have agreed to provide a brief statement or reference about the applicant)

Female Master's students (working on their thesis), doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers who have to interrupt their practical laboratory work due to pregnancy and/or breastfeeding have the opportunity to submit a one-off application for a research assistant (WHF) (max. 19 hours per week for a period of up to six months).

The aim of the measure is to ensure the continuation of experimental laboratory activities in order to achieve the desired qualification goal. The applicant is responsible for ensuring the supervision of laboratory activities and scientific support.

How do I apply for funding?

To apply for funding, please send an informal application with reasons to the Dean via the team of the local Equal Opportunities Officer of the school (equalityfk4(at)uni-wuppertal.de).
